I realized I needed to delve alot deeper and get some cold hard facts and statistics on board so i could help my community best, and bloody oath I found some ripper facts.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as ChatGPT, into various industries has given rise to concerns about job displacement and the future of work. 

This blog and video will delve into the potential impact of AI on jobs, highlighting the results of several surveys one involving 1000 U.S. business leaders and exploring specific industries that might be significantly affected by AI.

Survey Results: ChatGPT and the Workforce

Here are some facts from 1000 U.S. business leaders surveyed in February to gauge the use and impact of ChatGPT in their companies:

  • 49% of companies currently use ChatGPT, with 93% of them planning to expand its use.

  • 30% of companies plan to start using ChatGPT, with 85% of them intending to do so within the next 6 months.

  • 48% of companies using ChatGPT have replaced workers since November.

  • 25% of companies using ChatGPT have saved over $75,000.

  • 90% of business leaders consider ChatGPT experience a beneficial skill for job seekers.

ChatGPT Applications Across Industries

1. Hiring and Talent Acquisition

Companies are using ChatGPT to facilitate hiring processes:

  • 77% use ChatGPT to write job descriptions.

  • 66% use it to draft interview requisitions.

  • 65% use it to respond to applicants.

2. Writing Code

66% of companies using ChatGPT utilize it for writing code, allowing employees to focus on more strategic initiatives.

3. Copywriting and Content Creation

58% of companies using ChatGPT employ the technology for copywriting and content creation tasks.

4. Customer Support

57% of companies use ChatGPT to handle customer support, streamlining the customer experience.

5. Summarizing Meetings and Documents

52% of companies use ChatGPT for creating summaries of meetings or documents, improving efficiency in information dissemination.

Job Displacement and the Future of Work

According to the survey:

  • 33% of business leaders believe ChatGPT will 'definitely' lead to layoffs by the end of 2023.

  • 26% think it will 'probably' result in layoffs.

  • Within 5 years, 63% of business leaders think ChatGPT will 'definitely' (32%) or 'probably' (31%) lead to layoffs.

However, among business leaders whose companies haven't started using ChatGPT but plan to, fewer anticipate layoffs:

  • Only 9% say their company's use of ChatGPT will 'definitely' lead to layoffs.

  • 19% say 'probably.'

Adapting to ChatGPT: A Valuable Skill for Job Seekers

The survey revealed that:

  • 92% of business leaders view AI/chatbot experience as a plus when assessing job candidates.

  • 90% find ChatGPT-specific experience beneficial.

My Thoughts

The rise of AI in the workforce, starting with just the use of ChatGPT let alone everything else going on, is not just a possible future it is here and now, This is both exciting and terrifying. It offers potential improvements in efficiency and streamlining of various industries, but also poses the risk of displacing millions of jobs.

To stay relevant and competitive, workers and industries must adapt and evolve as technology continues to advance. Please forgive me I am trying so hard not to use my catchphrase here but i cant help myself. 

“The avalanche has started, Either ride the wave of change or get buried by the weight of the future”.
